About Corona Community
Ambulance Corps, Inc.
The Corona Community Ambulance Corps, Inc. (affectionately
known as Corona Volunteer Ambulance Corps) is comprised of a dedicated group of medical professionals who have resolved to bring quality emergency medical services to the
Community of Corona, Queens, and we have been doing so since
May 1960. Corona Community Ambulance Corps, Inc. is an IRS 501c3 Non-profit agency, a New York State Office of Charities Charitable Organization, a New York State Department of Health Bureau of EMS Certifiend Ambulance Service, and a New York State Tax-Exempt agency.
Each of our ambulances are staffed with at least two New York State certified Emergency Medical
Technicians. Each of our ambulances is equipped with a defibrillator, and
each ambulance exceeds NY State requirements for emergency equipment
as defined by Part-800 of the Public Health Code.
Corona Community Volunteer Ambulance Corps was founded
May 16, 1960 by Nicholas Coppola Sr. due to an obvious need for a community-based ambulance service. The
original Corps colors of Blue shirts with Blue pants and an 8-point Blue cap have since given way to the new colors of White shirts with Black pants.
Over the years Corona has been the proud owner of several
different Cadillac Hearse Ambulances and up until 2004 we still
had one in our possession, a 1973 Ambulance. "Charlie 1" as it
has become to be known at CCVAC was sold to a vehicle
restoration company in Tenessee. In November 2006 we added two Type II (Van-style) Ambulances joined our fleet after being purchased from Custom
Rescue / Wheeled Coach. This was made possible by a Capital
Project Grant of $100,000 from the Department of Mental Health
and Hygiene courtesy of District 21 Councilman Hiram Monserrate.
